Peninsula Eye Clinic supports a group of dedicated eye specialists who bring specific expertise in various fields of eye disease.
Included in these is the medical and surgical retina service, which includes a diagnostic and treatment service. Our service includes digital angiography, photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), ultrasonography, laser facilities, and medical treatment of macular disease with drugs e.g Lucentis, Avastin and streroids.
The retina is the important light sensitive nerve layer lining the inside of the eye. Diseases of the retina can severely affect the vision.
Three main groups of diseases can affect the retina:
- Retinal blood vessel disorders: Diabetes, high blood pressure, and diseases that cause blocked blood vessels.
- Acquired retinal/macular diseases: Age related macular degeneration, and diseases that cause swelling in the macular (Central serous retinopathy, cystoid macular oedema).
- Hereditary macular diseases: Retinitis pigmentosa, and other dystrophies.
