Thyroid Ophthallmopathy

  • Thyroid eye disease also known as Thyroid associated ophthmopathy(TAO) or Grave’s orbitopathy is an autoimmune disorder characterised by enlargement of the extraocular muscles and increase in fatty or connective tissue volume.
  • Patients demonstrate puffy eyelids, bulgy eyes, problems with eye movements and diplopia
  • More common amongst women and smokers, this condition is difficult to treat but effective strategies have been established.
