Basal Cell Carcinoma

  • A common type of skin cancer occurring on the eyelid or skin around the eyes
  • Caused by high exposure to sunlight
  • Begins as a small, raised growth
  • Classic appearance is a nodule with a pitted centre
  • Does not cause discomfort, but if advanced, may cause distortion the lid
  • Needs to be surgically excised by an ophthalmologist as soon as possible
